A Super Affordable Homework Space for my Tween/ Back to School Ready with Walmart

Desk Under $50 / Chair Under $80 / Calendar Whiteboard Set / Pineapple Corkboard / (similar) Lamp

I shared with you some of the items the kids picked out for back-to-school, (see post HERE, if you missed it) but Em and I were so excited with how her new little study corner turned out in her new bedroom that I couldn’t help but share it with you as well! We’d promised Em in the new house she’d get her “Big Girl Room” she’s wanted for years. If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ve been hearing me talk about this for at least 2 years, bc it’s something she’s asked for at least that long. So… for her bday in March, we agreed in the new house, we’d finally give her the room she’s been dreaming about.

Back to School with Walmart

Kids Outfits:

You guys, I can’t believe it’s already time for the kids to go back to school! This summer has been consumed with renovating and packing and moving, and all of a sudden… BAM!!!… it’s over! I’m always sad when summer ends, but the kids actually LUV school and they’re super excited to get started in the new year and meet their new teachers and see their friends… so, I’m excited for them! PLUS… I have a MILLION things to do at the new house, so I could use the shift back to our routines! We usually do our school shopping super early, because if you know me, you know that back-to-school shopping might be one of my very favorite things to do. Always has been, even when I was a kid. But the crazy busy summer had us up until the last minute shopping this year. Luckily, I’ve been shopping a ton at Walmart lately and I’d been seeing some of the cutest kids’ items so I had my eye on a few things I knew the kids would LUV…

How I Feel About Dakota Reaching Her Milestones & Our Fav New Activity Mat by Tiny Love

*Thank you Tiny Love for sponsoring this post! I did receive compensation for my review of this product, but as usual, all opinions are my own and I do not endorse anything I do not absolutely LUV!

Because Dakota was born almost 2 months early, it’s been a little slower pushin’ over here on reaching some of her “milestones” than our other kids. Which is TOTALLY OK! For me, I’ve never put pressure on when my children sit, crawl, walk, give up their bottle (or binky) or worry when they’re going to stop needing things like their blanky or favorite stuffed animal in their backpack to get through the school day. “Pack that blanky in your backpack, baby!” These days are fleeting and the last thing I need is for them to grow faster than they already are! I know they won’t be taking their bottle or binky with them to college and they’ll be crawling/walking in no time. So, I’ll be honest, I just don’t worry about when their timing is to take that next step… no pun intended.

I’ll also say that I don’t believe that when a child sits, crawls or walks typically has any major indication as to their level of intelligence or their physical capabilities in their future (unless, of course, other conditions exist). I’ve learned through experiences from our first child, now to our third, that parents can put a lot of pressure on themselves as it pertains to their children’s milestones. For me, I say LET THEM BE LITTLE. And I embrace whatever pace my littles decide work for them.

An Update on My Life, The Loss of Others & How I Plan to Take on the New Year

Several weeks ago I lost a friend from college, who took his life tragically and unexpectedly. He was an exceptional human, the life of the party, a friend to many…

This past week I lost another friend. He hasn’t been part of my life since we were “kids”. But since learning a few days ago that he {also} took his life, only one month or so after my other friend, in the same tragic way… I have felt myself feeling cynical, angry, and of course, sad. As I’ve still been trying to process the death of my other friend, left with so many questions of how does something like this happen, I find myself constantly asking the question… How could these good people be choosing to take their own lives? Leaving behind children, parents, siblings, friends…

As we go into the new year, we’re all setting goals for ourselves. We want to lose some lbs, eat better, organize our homes, declutter our closets… We’re planning for all of the ways we can prioritize our physical selves and our outer circumstances. And pretty much everyone I’ve talked to has the same or similar goals and plans for the new year. Me, included.
